Three Souls – NaPoWriMo Day 5 – Easter

Three Souls

by Jan Brown

in Bethany, Nain and Galilee

Jesus raised the dead to life

three people, three reasons

in Bethany, His dear friends

lost their brother, Lazarus

the only one of the three

whose name we know

the only one of the three

who was already buried

in Nain, He came upon a funeral procession

a widow had lost her only child, a son

He saw her weeping

He saw her pain

Luke said His heart went out to her

He raised the boy from his funeral bier

and gave him back to his mother

in Galilee, a Roman Centurion

had a servant whose daughter was ill

he asked Jesus to lay His hands on her

to heal her

Jesus was moved by Roman’s faith

but when He got to the servant’s house

the girl was dead

Jesus consoled the parents

by telling a white lie

“She is only sleeping.”

then He raised her by the hand

from her bed

and asked her parents

to get her something to eat

inserting a mundane request

into an extraordinary situation

I wonder what comfort food

is appropriate

for resurrection

three situations

that moved our Lord

to the ultimate miracle

seemingly nothing in common

one borne of friendship

one borne of sympathy

one borne of faith

and so I wonder…

why was I saved?

and will I be saved again?

but then, I know the answer

and once again

have faith

And my God will meet all your needs according to His glorious riches in Christ Jesus.

— Philippians 4:19
