Rumors of War

This haiku (or is it a senryu?) is a response to a poetry prompt on Twitter, but more importantly it is a response to a distressing news report of the brutalization and humiliation of non-Russians in Crimea.

rumors of war
masked mercenaries
sadists, still unwitting pawns
Please continue to pray for peace in the Ukraine.

  1. I love the alliteration of masked mercenaries. Such a cool idea to get a prompt from twitter! I’ll have to start using twitter that way. As a writer with a literary blog, I really appreciate the creativity behind your haiku, and I’m glad I stumbled upon it!

    • Thank you for your comment and the link to your blog post. I agree, the Svoboda neo-Nazis are extremely distressing as well. From the news accounts I saw and read, they added an element of extremism and violence to the protests that wasn’t helpful (an understatement).

Sometimes there are people that make us think, “I wish those guys were NOT on my side.”

      • And often sides get very messy and blurry… Unfortunately, once the order breaks, everything goes out of control turning into real chaos. Neo-nazis, thugs, criminals and other dark forces thrive in such environment 😦
