Grieving the Lush Life

autumn leaves, languid

no longer blessed

by a lush life of green

crunchy and dry

permanently thirsty

◊◊◊

aging leaves, weightless

buffeted by the merest of breezes

floating without direction

I try to catch them

paste them back on the branch

◊◊◊

stubborn leaves, dangling

holding on to a near-bare bough

clinging to the life they knew

then flying into my hands

too weak to keep them safe

Dancing girl
