Today’s writing prompt is “shade tree.” It seems ironic, because much of the northern United States would like anything but shade. Lent begins in the aftermath of Nemo, and most of us are happy to see the sun again. My relatives in New England are still marvelling at the snow (or cursing at it). Yet here in the midwest, Ash Wednesday is glorious, with all but scattered piles of snow melted down to the ground, and a cloudless sky that signals the resurrection of spring.
lonely ash trees
naked and shivering
stark reminder of spring
